Hello, hive! Last week, I talked about what I wanted to do with my hair for the big day. Just as important? What I want to do with my makeup!
I wear a full face of makeup every single day, so while I would be completely comfortable doing my own wedding day makeup, I’d rather have my to-do list that morning be as short as possible. Solution? I’m outsourcing this job to the pros. (Interested in talking DIY makeup? See Mrs. Rainbow’s and Miss Pyramid’s posts on the subject – they’ve got it all covered!)
First things first: I’ll be giving airbrush makeup a spin at my trial. I want the full coverage and smooth finish that airbrush makeup allegedly provides, but most importantly, I want to make sure that my makeup lasts all day. One of my sorority sisters got married last September, and she looked just as flawless at midnight as she did at her afternoon ceremony. (It may have helped that she’s naturally drop-dead gorgeous, but WHATEVER, her professional airbrush makeup job hadn’t budged one bit.) I know sometimes people express concern that airbrush makeup can look cakey and artificial, but frankly, I have never noticed that, so I’m not worried about it.
What sort of look am I going for? While I mentioned above that I wear a lot of makeup on a daily basis, I do keep the overall look pretty natural.
Miss Filly’s everyday makeup essentials (horrible personal photo) – top row (L-R), Etude House Baby Choux Base in Mint, Skin79 Snail Nutrition BB Cream, TONYMOLY Backstage Gel Eyeliner in #1, Benefit Brow Zings in Medium; 2nd row (L-R), Urban Decay Naked Palette, Benefit Eye Bright; 3rd row (L-R), Coastal Scents Silica Spheres (dupe for MUFE HD Microfinish Powder, thanks to Mrs. Rainbow), Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Blissful, Benefit Hoola Bronzing Powder; bottom row (L-R), Lancome Hypnose Drama Instant Full Body Volume Mascara in Excessive Black, Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Smitten. Looks like a lot, but I can go from zero to fully spackled in fifteen minutes.
One of our engagement photos, courtesy of Aleksey Moryakov. To be fair, I had done my makeup like six hours before, but I do wish I’d been a little more heavy-handed than usual, especially on my lips.
Anyway, I’m not shy about piling on the makeup. The whole “I want to look like me but better” thing? Well, “me” = fully-done face, so the “better” part just means taking it up a notch. Maybe some fake eyelashes to add some oomph? Or a bright lip? I don’t know what exactly, but I’m going to have fun figuring it out.
For my makeup inspiration, I looked to celebrities who always hit it out of the park, beauty-wise. Here are some of my favorites!

Real talk, you guys. Does Adele ever NOT look absolutely flawless? Trick question; we all know the answer. LOVE YOU, GIRL. Anyway, I love everything about this look: the sheer berry-colored lipstick, the contouring, the neutral-but-still-kind-of-smoky eye … I die. The eye makeup is so dramatic and pretty, but the overall look is still very much wedding-appropriate. To me, at least.

I don’t even like country music (don’t all crucify me at once!) but I’ve gotta give it to Carrie Underwood: she’s got the bold eye/nude lip combo down to a science. Actually, considering I used her in my hair inspiration post as well, I clearly think very highly of her beauty routine.

I can’t think of anybody who epitomizes the term “fresh-faced” better than Emma Stone. I love how the eye makeup takes a backseat to her bright, peachy blush and lip color. This look is awfully similar to what I do every day, but that’s definitely not a bad thing – I still want to look like me, right?

What is it with me and country music stars? Love or hate T.Swift, you’ve got to give her credit for this stunning makeup look. The bronze shadow really makes her blue eyes pop, which is a good trick for all you blue-eyed bees out there (i.e. me) to keep in your back pockets. I’m not sure if I’ll be a smoky-eyed bride or not, but this picture makes me really want to think about it.

HAHAHAHA, you guys thought I was done posting pictures of Adele. WRONG. If you’re going to do a bold lip on your wedding day, this is the way to do it. I am obsessed with the matte red lipstick and retro-inspired eye here. I know Adele has a highly-trained beauty team to touch up that lipstick every time she takes a sip of champagne, whereas I only have myself, but it looks so pretty that I can’t help but consider it!
So after all that, it’s pretty obvious that I like me some dramatic eye makeup. Like most women, I definitely want to play up my eyes for my wedding day. I’m also a fan of contouring – gotta bring out that bridal glow, you know? As far as lip color, I’m pretty indifferent – bright, bold lips are fun, but I really don’t want to spend a ton of time running back and forth to the bathroom to touch up. We’ll see what works best with the rest of my look.
What will be your wedding day makeup look? Are you going pro or DIY?
