Well, hive, the four month countdown mark has come and gone. The closer I get to the wedding, the more wedding-related stuff I have to do. Funny how that works, right? I’ve been pretty DGAF about everything so far; let’s see if I stay that way now that I actually have to do things.

But this is a fun post, okay? My hair and makeup trial is scheduled for the end of the month, so it’s time for me to start thinking about how I’d like to look on my wedding day. Other than, like, mumblemumblemumble pounds thinner – and considering I think I’m the only bride-to-be in the entire universe who has actually gained weight during her engagement, clearly that’s not happening. That’s what Spanx are for.

I digress. We’re talking hair today, not the size of my caboose.

So far, I know that I want to wear my hair up (hence my post about how I’m growing my hair out). The main reason for this is that I want to get my money’s worth! I’m having my hair professionally done, and an updo has way more staying power than a blowout or curls. If I leave my hair down, it will look great for a few hours, sure, but eventually the style will fall and I’ll end up a ratty, sweaty mess. Not cute. Although there is something delightfully ironic about my gorgeous, lacy wedding gown paired with a sloppy ponytail.

First off, I’d like to share some resources that are a treasure trove for information and inspiration …

  • Hair & Makeup By Steph is my absolute favorite. If I could afford to fly this woman out to New Jersey to jack me up for the wedding, I’d do it in a heartbeat. GAHHHHHHH.
  • The Small Things has a ton of gorgeous hair tutorials that are surprisingly easy, should you be going the DIY route.
  • Freckled Fox also has some amazing tutorials, but some of them are way out of my league. I have the dexterity of your average three-year-old, though.
  • The Beauty Department is a good mix of tutorials and inspiration, and I will stan for Lauren Conrad until the end of time, so yeah.
  • Divine Caroline has EVERYTHING. Lots of celebrity hairstyles, if that’s your cup of tea.

So after all that extensive research (life’s tough when you’re planning a wedding – a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do), I came to the following conclusions regarding my dream updo: I want it low. I want tons of volume. I want a soft, romantic look. And I DO NOT want hair in my face. Weird quirk that I’ve got: when my hair is up, I loathe the sensation of hair in my face. I have no idea why, but I figure I’m not changing my stance on that in the next four months. Since I will be annoyed to death by tendrils, no matter how pretty they may look, I’ll need another way of adding visual interest so that the front view isn’t too severe.

I’ve got my resources, I’ve got my very strict criteria, and now I’ve got pictures! Here are some ideas that are along the lines of what I’m looking for …

If you are an observant reader, you’ll notice that most of these hairstyles have tendrils. Whoops. What can I say, I like what I like. Either I’ll put on my big girl panties and deal with it, or I’ll have the hairstyle modified to not include them.

Since I’m not 100% committed to a particular hairstyle, I’m thinking I’ll print a selection of different pictures, bring them all to my trial to give my hairstylist an idea of what I’m looking for, and let her work her magic. She’s the expert, and she’s been cutting my hair for nearly ten years now, so I’m completely comfortable letting her have free reign over my head.

So, hive – what did you do (or will you be doing) with your hair for the big day? What are your favorite hair inspiration resources?
